ROUNDTABLE: The Economic use of land

Episode 2842,   Nov 02, 08:57 AM

Much of the land in South Sudan especially in the rural areas remains untapped and of little economic use for the benefit of the owners. This is due to limited know of how land could be used for economic empowerment, reduce conflict, and foster individual and community developments across the country.

Land security whether in rural or urban areas is critical in the sense the landowners can access, use and manage land and property without risk of dispossession, eviction or arbitrary changes to their land use. This is where the land policy and legal instruments are important in regulating subsistent and economic use of land

So what do legal instruments such as the land policy and Act say about the economic usage of land in the country?

On the show are:

1.     Hon. Robert Ladu Lwoki: Chairperson of the South Sudan Land Commission
2.     Dr. Miyar De'Nyok: Assistant Professor at the University of Juba
3.     Makur James Achuoth: A freelance researcher and a PhD Candidate in Agriculture
