By day, this state seems like a beautiful and vibrant place to live. There's mountain views, and spots that feel like an artist’s safe haven. It’s a place that feels alive with music, crafts, and color. But beneath the vibrant surface lies a much older story. This state was officially founded in the late 18th century but it’s been shaped for centuries by Appalachian folklore. This state has long been a crossroads of cultures, beliefs, and… something harder to explain. 

Locals will tell you these mountains have memories. That the fog rolling through the valleys isn’t always weather. Stories pass from porch to porch, from bartender to late-night patron—stories of a haunted bridge that was the backdrop for a dark tragedy, ships and crew that seemingly vanished into thin air with no explanation, and unfathomably dark happenings in a boarding school that was supposed to help children. Some call these legends. Others call them warnings. 

So today, we’re traveling to the east coast of the United States, and visiting a state where history and the unexplained seeming to blur together. Today’s perplexing episode is all about haunting history and folklore out of North Carolina.
