As “Where Were You in ‘82” continues, we put on our magic amulets and go in search of some wise old rats as we screen the 1982 Don Bluth classic “The Secret of Nimh”.

Imagine…travelling back to a time before the Internet…before Mountain Dew Livewire…and before the neo-post apocalypse…

This Summer, Apocalypse Video asks the question: Where Were You In ‘82?

The date is July 2nd, 1982. Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder's "Ebony and Ivory" has finally been overtaken in the Billboard charts by The Human League's "Don't You Want Me?", and an animated film from Don Bluth is about to hit theaters and show us what one Mother Mouse is capable of when her little son Timothy is sick.

The film...is The Secret of Nimh. And it's about to be revealed...now!

I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we pump some experimental brain juice into our veins are fellow cinephiles Mike, Ryan, and Jackie.

Topics of discussion in this episode include a look into the weird and colorful world of Don Bluth and his journey from Disney employee to the brief King of traditional animation; we try to understand the power of the Amulet (aka: unspecified Macguffin); and finally, we take a look at The Secret of Nimh’s ill conceived straight to video sequel and it’s unfortunate Disney-fication.

And as Mrs. Brigsby unleashes the power of the amulet and saves her children from dying a slow miserable death in a mudpile, we must leave the animated world of Don Bluth behind and venture forth into the future - the digital future! When we return we’ll be getting pixelated as we enter the grid and go lightcycling with the one and only Tron. See you then, programs!
