Caleb Flynn Called 911 and Allegedly Told a Story

Every murder investigation has a starting point. For the case against Caleb Flynn, that starting point is a 911 call made at 2:30 in the morning on the night his wife Ashley was found shot dead in their bed. Caleb picked up the phone and told dispatch he had been asleep on the couch. He said he had a cough that sent him to the living room. He said he heard a gunshot and froze. And then, prosecutors allege, he did what no genuinely panicked spouse typically does -- he reportedly started building a suspect profile for the dispatcher before anyone even asked.

Tony brings in Robin Dreeke, a former FBI behavioral analysis expert, to go through the call with surgical precision. Robin explains the difference between what real panic sounds like on a recorded line and what a reportedly rehearsed performance sounds like. He identifies the vocal signatures, the emotional inconsistencies, and the narrative choices that trained analysts flag when evaluating a 911 call for authenticity.

They examine the freeze claim from a scientific standpoint. People do freeze under extreme stress. But Robin lays out the conditions under which that response actually occurs versus the conditions that trigger the far more common fight-or-flight instinct -- the desperate, involuntary drive to sprint toward a loved one in danger. The question is not whether freezing is possible. The question is whether it is plausible in this specific scenario.

The language on the call matters too. Robin identifies patterns of distancing language that may indicate a caller is not processing a genuine trauma but is instead allegedly creating emotional distance from the event. When you listen to the tape after hearing Robin's analysis, you hear a very different call.
