A Researcher’s perspective on South Sudan’s Peace Process

A Researcher and a Non-Residential fellow at the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin warns that if fighting by non-signatories to the peace agreement continue, #SouthSudan is most likely to plunge into starvation.

Gerrit Kurtz said many people remain in need of humanitarian assistance, and that the risk of famine persists. 

He says the revitalized peace agreement has brought increased security and stabilization in the country despite shortcomings.

Gerrit Kurtz urged parties to expedite the process that will lead to the formation of Government of National Unity. He said that many cantonment sites lack adequate food provisions, slowing down the assembly of security forces of the parties.
