Jonglei Peace Conference bears fruit

Episode 1509,   Mar 16, 2021, 06:54 AM

Local authorities in Jonglei and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) are reporting improved security where inter-communal clashes were previously frequent.

The spokesperson of the Jonglei-Pibor peace initiative, Daniel Abocha attributes this to the Jonglei peace conference that was held in Juba in January.

The three-day peace conference among the communities of Jonglei State and the GPAA was held 25 January - 27 January, with the rival groups agreeing to bury their differences and embrace peace.

The about 250 delegates including youth, women, chiefs, and intellectuals of Bor, Gawar, Lou Nuer, Anyuak, and Murle deliberated on the issues of insecurity and inter-communal violence in Jonglei State and the GPAA.
