Caleb Flynn Court Coverage Day 2: Ryszek and Casto Explain WHAT Forensics Showed

The Caleb Flynn trial turned to crime scene testing and autopsy findings with Ohio BCI technician Holly Ryszek and Montgomery County forensic pathologist Dr. Bryan Casto. Their testimony gave jurors a closer look at the physical evidence surrounding Ashley Flynn's death and the limits of several findings. 

Ryszek testified that swabs from the sink drain and shower drain in the master suite did not test positive for blood. She also tested suspected blood found on light switches and testified that it was blood. Ryszek said she swabbed numerous areas of the bedroom and master bathroom for DNA, along with Caleb Flynn's truck. 

Ryszek also addressed the garage, where the alleged break-in has been disputed. She testified that the garage door appeared inconsistent with forced entry. Prosecutors allege Caleb staged the house to look like a burglary. The defense maintains the home-invasion account and says investigators rushed to judgment. 

Casto conducted Ashley Flynn's autopsy. He testified that she had two gunshot wounds to the head located very close together. His toxicology findings included Prozac and an elevated level of melatonin. Casto said the melatonin level showed Ashley had taken melatonin at some point. 

On cross-examination, Casto testified that the two bullet tracks overlapped. He also said the range was indeterminate. The autopsy could describe the wound paths, but it could not give jurors a precise firing distance. 

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges tied to the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Jurors heard both positive and negative forensic findings: blood detected on light switches, no blood detected in the two drains Ryszek discussed, extensive DNA swabbing, and two closely positioned wounds with the firing range unresolved.
