The Lakers beat the Saints 10-2 in Avon behind a 4-run bottom of the 1st and a 4-run bottom of the 8th.

The Pioneers defeat the Huskies 5-2 to snap Albany's 10-game winning streak behind a Complete-Game pitching performance from Peter Schommer. Preston Rocheleau, Isaac Otte and Cohlton Boser smash rbi doubles while Reese Kapsner squeezes in a run with a perfect bunt and Jack Suska adds an rbi single to account for the Pierz runs.

In a well-pitched non-conference game, the Pioneers score the only run of the game in the bottom of the 1st and edge the visiting Flyers 1-0. Brittney Boser fires a 4-hit shutout for the Pioneers while Jade Porter has 2 of the Pioneers hits off Kali Mammenga. Jade also started a big double play to stop a potential Little Falls scoring threat in the top of the 6th to preserve the lead.

The Pioneers drop Game 2 of their Doubleheader at Kimball by a score of 7-2.  Pierz scored all 3 of their runs in the bottom of the 5th on a sacrifice fly by Reese Kapsner and a 2-run single by Preston Rocheleau.

The Pioneers fall behind 7-2 after 3 innings to the Cubs but score 12 unanswered runs to win 14-7 in Game 1 of their CMC Doubleheader at Kimball.  Reese Kapsner scored 4 runs, Peter Schommer added 3 runs scored and Preston Rocheleau drove in 3 runs to lead the comeback while Isaac Otte earned his first career Varsity pitching Win with 3 solid innings of shutout relief work.

The Pioneers earn a split of their doubleheader with the Bulldogs after a 6-1 win as Austin Dickmann tosses a complete game and Jack Suska drives in 4 runs to lead the way.

The Pioneers lose 7-2 in 10 innings to the Bulldogs as Paynesville plates 5 runs in the top of the 10th to stay undefeated.

The Billygoats got a pair of Homers from Joe Kahl, a solo blast from Shawn Lanners and a 2-run double from Lukas Otte in the 9th inning, but it was an rbi single in the 10th from Jeremy Monson that lifted Buckman to a 6-5 victory over Lastrup on Sunday at Hellie Field.

The Bears edge the Brewers 8-6 in 11 innings on David Bialka's 2-out,  2-run single in the top of the 11th to make a winner of Zack Bialka, who threw 7 shutout innings of relief to earn the Win.

The Pioneers were down to their final out of the game, trailing the Irish 4-2, when an error allowed 1 run to score to make it 4-3 and then Austin Dickmann laced a 2-run double to give the Pioneers a 5-4 lead.  Maple Lake left runners at 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 6th when Reese Kapsner finished the game with a strikeout and the Pioneers earned a hard-fought split of their CMC doubleheade...

Austin Dickmann gives the Pioneers a very solid Complete Game pitching effort as Pierz downs Holdingford 4-1 to complete the sweep of their CMC doubleheader.  Austin also contributed mightily on offense, going 2-2 including a 2-run single.  Alec Lochner was 1-2 with a run-scoring single as well.  Dickmann struck out 8 and allowed just 2 hits.

The Pioneers take Game 1 over the Huskers by a score of 4-2 as Peter Schommer earns his 2nd Win of the season by hurling 5 strong innings, striking out 9.  Schommer also had 2 hits, including an rbi double and a sacrifice bunt.

The Lakers down the Riverdogs 5-1 on Opening Day at Hellie Field.  Brad Meyer throws 6 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit to get the Win. Reese Kapsner led the Lakers offense with a 2-run double, a stolen base and a run scored.

The Pierz Brewers celebrated Victory League Opening Day with a 15-7 victory over the Pierz Bulldogs at Hellie Field.  Alvin Kimman drove in 4 runs and Jeremy Payne belted a solo Homer to lead the Brewers.  Ryan Foreman doubled and homered for the Bulldogs.

The Pioneers continue their early-season offensive fireworks by pounding the Wolves 24-2 in their 2018 Home Opener at Hellie Field.  Alex Funk went 4-4 and drove in 5 runs and scored 4 runs to lead a 19-hit attack.  Preston Rocheleau, Reese Kapsner and Austin Dickmann combined to limit the Wolves to just 1 hit as the Pioneers improved to 3-0.

The Pioneers posted one of their most important regular season wins in recent memory with a 9-4 win at home over the Crusaders.  Both teams figure to be strong contenders in Section 6AA and both carried unblemished 4-0 records into this early season contest. Brittney Boser allowed just 5 hits in her Complete Game win and Emily Daiker blasted a Homer and drove in 3 runs to lead the offense.

The Pioneers wrap up their season-opening sweep of the Eagle with a 13-1 victory behind the 2-hit pitching of Peter Schommer and a 7-run bottom of the 2nd inning that was keyed by 2-run doubles from Reese Kapsner and Austin Dickmann.

The Pioneers finally got their 2018 season underway with a 7-1 win over the BBE Jaguars in Brooten.  Laura Skiba cracked a 2-run Homer and Taylor Cummings delivered a 2-run double to key the offense while Brittney Boser threw the first 6 innings, allowing no runs, just 1 hit and striking out 7.

As the Section 7AA Playoffs opened, the 8th seeded Pioneers traveled North to take on the #1 seeded Eskomos in the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the hardwood.  Pierz battled right to the end, keeping it close throughout.  The Pioneers stayed within single-digit striking distance for most of the game until they were forced to foul late in the game and Esko knocked down some clutc...

The second session of Friday's action at the 2018 State Wrestling Tournament featured the Championship Quarterfinal matches in all 3 classes.  Jake Andres of Pierz lost a close 4-3 decision at 120 AA.  For Foley, Nathan Garceau posted an 8-5 win at 113 AA to advance to the Semifinals.  Also advancing to the Semifinals for Foley were John Dierkes at 138 AA with a 3-1 win, Justin Henry won 6-0 at...

The Royalton/Upsala Royals had 5 Individuals qualify in Class A and had 3 of them pick up 1st round victories.  Jacob Leibold won his debut at 120 lb by a 7-2 score.  Jackson Held won by Fall at 160 lb, Lyle Zimmerman and Marshall Meehl both lost by Fall and had to play the waiting game and then Jason Kasella got his Tournament started with a Fall at 220 lb to advance to the Class A Quarterfinals.

The Little Falls Flyers sent 3 Individuals to St. Paul and the State Tournament and they had Gabe Nagel lose a close 5-4 decision and then had to wait for a wrestleback.  Simon Bryce opened his day with a 16-1 Tech Fall win to advance to the Quarterfinals at 152.  And them Sam Nagel lost his 195 lb match by Fall and had to wait and see if he would get a wrestleback.

The 2018 Individual State Wrestling Tournament at the Excel Energy Center kicked off with Class AA action. The Yellowjackets knock off the Falcons 31-25 in the Class AA Quarterfinals at the Excel Energy Center.  Nathan Garceau, Logan Thorston, Cameron Kowitz, Mitch Rothfork (#100), Carter Svihla and Mitch Trigg earn victories for the Falcons.

The Pioneers honor their 4 Seniors Preston Rocheleau, Johnny Hopkins, Jesse Marshik and Ben Herold as they play the final home game of their careers.  The Pioneers battle right to the end, but fall by a score of 62-53. Preston Rocheleau leads the way with a 20-point effort on his 18th birthday while Peter Schommer tallies 15 for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers played an inspired brand of basketball in their final game of the regular season, falling just short in a 42-37 setback against the Irish.  Kelsi Stuckmayer led the Pioneers with 13 points while Taylor Kimman scored 9, Laura Skiba 6, Mariah Olesch 4, Malea Boser 2, Brittney Boser 2 and Avy Lease 1.  I could have chosen any good action photo for this game, but for this one, I prefer...

The Pioneers fall on the road to the Cubs by a final score of 66-57.  Jonah Prokott leads the Pioneers with 17 points while Peter Schommer adds 15 and Preston Rocheleau has 13.  Hayden Gagnon of the Cubs topped all scorers with 24, including his 1,000th career point.

Playing their final home game of the season, the Pioneers 64-45 to the CMC Champion Eagles.  Kelsi Stuckmayer knocked down 5 three-pointers to finish with 15 points to lead Pierz while Taylor Kimman scored 9.  Emma Schultz of EVW led all scorers with 23.

The Pioneers Dual Meet season came to an end in the 8AA Team Semifinals in Thief River Falls when a powerful Detroit Lakes Lakers team bested the Pioneers 51-18.  The Pioneers won their match by Fall to account for the teams 18 points: Jake Andres at 120, Austin Radunz at 138 and Carson Huls at 195.

The #3 seeded Pioneers took care of their business in the 8AA Quarterfinals in Thief River Falls with a 55-21 victory over the #6 seeded Road Crew. Trevor Radunz got it started with a Fall at 106 followed by a 5-0 win for Brandon Funk at 113 and then a Forfeit for Jake Andres made the score 15-0. The Pioneers and Falcons play a close game in Foley on Friday night.  With the game tied at 39-39 with just over 2:00 left to play, the Falcons were able to outscore the Pioneers 9-0 down the stretch to win 48-39.  Kelsi Stuckmayer paced the Pioneers with 13 points while Brittney Boser and Rabeka Langer each scored 8.  Isabelle Legatt led Foley with 12 points.

The Pioneers fall 60-54 in Overtime to the Cubs in CMC action.  Kelsi Stuckmayer led Pierz with 15 points while Laura Skiba added 10.

The Pioneers and Lakers go to Overtime at St. Cloud State before the Lakers come out on top by a 60-55 score.  Jonah Prokott led all scorers with a career-best 24 points but TJ Kittock also had his best game with 19 points, Zach Uter had 16 and Brock Bangasser added 10 for a balanced Lakers team.

The Pierz Pioneers and the Royalton Upsala Royals wrapped up their regular season schedule with a Friday night Dual in Royalton.  While each team won 7 matches, it was the bonus points that the Pioneers earned that turned out to be the difference in a 38-28 victory. The Pioneers fall in Belgrade to the Jaguars by a score of 70-35.  Kelsi Stuckmayer and Mariah Olesch tie for team-high scoring honors with 8 a piece. Macie Kirckof of the Jaguars leads all scorers with 12 points.

The Pioneers play perhaps their best all-around game of the season to defeat the visiting Lakers 56-42 on Monday at the MAC.  The Pioneers really cashed in at the free throw line, knocking down 27-37 attempts, including Brittney Boser making 14-17 on her way to a 17 point game Kelsi Stuckmayer converted 7-8 of her tries and led Pierz with 21 points.  The Pierz defense also did its job, holding ...

The Pioneers pick up their first CMC victory and their first home win as well with a 53-36 victory over the Bulldogs.  Zach Traut leads the way with a career-best 13 points while Peter Schommer adds 11, Preston Rocheleau 10, Jonah Prokott 9, Michael Leidenfrost 8 and Johnny Hopkins 2 for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers beat the Huskers 65-6, aided by 8 forfeits.  Austin Radunz and Jalen Jansen won by Fall while Reese Kapsner won by Tech Fall.

The Pioneers beat the Bulldogs 48-24 in Holdingford, highlighted by Jalen Jansen winning his 100th career match with a Fall at 170.  Ross Boser, Jake Andres, Riley Hoskins, Luke Girtz and Carson Huls also won by Fall while Reese Kapsner won by Forfeit and Brandon Funk and Brandon Tomala won by Decision.

Conference-leading Maple Lake pulled away from the Pioneers for a 73-50 victory at the MAC on Tuesday night.  Jonah Prokott led Pierz with 15 points, Peter Schommer added 11 and Nick Scholl chipped in with 7. Mitch Hoistad paced the Irish with 21, while Joseph Stokman had 14 and Alex Toedter added 13 points and 13 rebounds as the Irish ran their winning streak to 11 straight.

The Pioneers put up a valiant effort against the Huskers on the road Monday night, holding the lead for the majority of the game until the Huskers managed to grab their first lead of the night with just over 4:30 left in the game and then held on for a 57-51 CMC victory.  In mid-December, the Huskers had steamrolled the Pioneers by 34, 73-39, but this game was much closer.  Kelsi Stuckmayer led...

The Pioneers crush the Tigers 68-6 in Browerville, racking up pins from Trevor Radunz, Brandon Funk, Austin Radunz, Riley Hoskins, Reese Kapsner, Luke Girtz, Carson Huls and Jacob Gotvald. Jake Andres earned a Tech Fall win, Jalen Jansen won 11-9 and Ross Boser and Brandon Tomala received Forfeit wins. The only points for the Tigers came from a Pioneers forfeit at 285.
