After a convincing win over Blaine in their first Dual in Cambridge on Saturday, the Pioneers took a big step up in competition when they went against Class AAA's 7th ranked team in the Forest Lake Rangers.  The Rangers powered their way to a 43-18 victory over the Pioneers. The Pioneers are unable to hold onto an 18 point lead in the first half as they drop a wild 77-76 game to the Huskies.  Peter Schommer scores 26, while Jonah Prokott and Preston Rocheleau add 19 points a piece for Pierz.

The Pioneers lose a 68-35 road game against the #11 ranked Eagles.  All 5 Eagles starters managed to score in double figures while Brittney Boser led the Pioneers with 9 points.  Avy Lease and Mariah Olesch added 6 points each, Laura Skiba had 5, Taylor Kimman had 4, Kelsi Stuckmayer 3 and Rabeka Langer scored 2.

The Pioneers let a 15 point lead slip away in the 2nd half as they fell 65-58 to the Jaguars at the MAC.  Peter Schommer led Pierz with 20 points while Preston Rocheleau added 15.  Jesse Marshik had a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers suffered through their coldest shooting night of the season and in the end, the scoreboard reflected that fact as the Jaguars held the Pioneers to a season-low in points in a 59-27 win for BBE.  Mariah Olesch made her first career Varsity start for the Pioneers and ended up leading the team in scoring with 9 points.

The Pioneers beat the Road Crew 51-21 with Trevor Radunz, Jake Andres, Riley Hoskins, Reese Kapsner, Luke Girtz and Jacob Gotvald winning by Fall. Brandon Tomala won a 13-5 Major Decision, Ross Boser won 7-1, Carson Huls was a 7-3 winner and John Brisk won by Forfeit.

In their final Dual of the Les Kertscher Duals in Frazee, the Pioneers squared off against the powerful Perham Yellowjackets. The Pioneers snapped their 3-game losing streak with a 64-37 win in the Central Minnesota Conference opener for both squads. Kelsi Stuckmayer poured in a season-high 27 points and Laura Skiba chipped in with a career-best 10 points off the bench to lead the way.

The Paul Bunyan Tournament in Brainerd moves to the Championship Seminal Round where 7 Pierz Pioneers, 6 Foley Falcons and 3 Little Falls Flyers compete for a spot in the Finals.

The second day of the Paul Bunyan Wrestling Tournament in Brainerd begins with a round of Wrestlebacks as Individuals from the 14 teams, including Pierz, Little Falls and Foley, attempt to keep their Tournament alive.

The Flyers build a big lead in the 2nd half only to see the Pioneers mount a furious rally, pulling within 1 at 51-50, but Little Falls knocks down some clutch free throws down the stretch to prevail 60-53. Joe Alholm leads the Flyers with 17 while Preston Rocheleau and Peter Schommer each score 21 to pace Pierz.

The Flyers edge the Pioneers 50-45 despite a nice game from Malea Boser, who tallies 16 points and pulls down 13 points while Kelsi Stuckmayer has another solid game with 15 points for Pierz. Sophia Sowada paces Little Falls with 15 points while Kali Mammenga chips in 10.

The Pioneers drop their season-opener to the Mustangs by a score of 69-49. Peter Schommer leads the way with 16 while Johnny Hopkins adds 10, but Mora's Cal Wright poured in 33 for the Mustangs.

The Pioneers fall behind by 16 points late in the 1st half against the Bombers, but use solid defense in the 2nd half half to get themselves back into the game. The Pioneers have possession of the ball with just :08 left and a chance to win, but a 3-pointer falls short and the Bombers hold on for a 43-41 win.

The Pioneers build a 30-5 lead at halftime on their way to a 48-32 victory over the Cardinals in the season opener for both teams and the Head Coaching debut of Marcus Artner for the Pioneers. Kelsi Stuckmayer paces Pierz with 17 points while Brittney Boser adds 11.

The Pioneers roll past the Rails by a score of 42-13 in the Class AAA Quarterfinals behind 3 touchdowns from Reese Kapsner, 2 touchdowns from Jalen Jansen and Cohlton Boser's recovery of a blocked punt in the end zone for another touchdown as the 2nd ranked Pioneers remain undefeated at 11-0 and advance to the Semifinals at US Bank Stadium.

I had a chance to visit with Pierz Pioneers Junior Jake Andres immediately after he had finished his race at the 2017 Class A State Cross Country Meet on the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield on Saturday. Jake finished 35th overall (after his 74th place finish last year as a Sophomore) with an excellent time of 16:56.0! Way to represent the Pioneers Jake!

The Pioneers roll past the Wildcats 40-14 on a snowy field at St. Cloud State to claim the Section 6AAA Championship and qualify for their 5th consecutive Class AAA State Tournament as Reese Kapsner scores 3 touchdowns and Jalen Jansen adds 2 scores while the Pioneers go 5-5 on 2-point conversions to put the game away.

The #1 seeded Pioneers rolled past the #4 seeded Dutchmen by a score of 41-7 in the Section 6AAA Semifinals as Carson Huls rushed for 154 yards and 2 Touchdowns, while Jalen Jansen, Matthias Algarin and Carter Moulzolf also ran for scores while Preston Rocheleau found Ben Herold for a 41 yard scoring strike as Pierz advances to the 6AAA Championship.

The 2nd seeded Crusaders end the 7th seeded Pioneers season with a 3 game sweep in the Section 6AA West Playoffs by scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-19. The Pioneers finish the season with a record of 14-13.
